Problem

Players are facing challenges trying to find a sport team. Existing solutions like social media groups , local gyms, field and courts, and all-purpose apps are either too broad and unorganized, or lack the necessary filtering options too meet specific needs and factors. Players need a more efficient solution to connect with teams that match their needs.

Solution

Creating the app to help finding sports teams based on personal preferences, such as location, availability, skillset, etc., for people who are involved in any team sports, to help them achieve more team connections among people.

Update your preferences to get the most accurate match.

See which teams are located closer to you.

Explore teams that match your preferences.

Research

The goal of the research was to identify the pain points that players experience while looking for a team and understand what leads people to make a decision towars one or another team, how they connect with those teams.

Research Questions

• What are the primary reasons why people struggle to find a team?

• How do individuals currently find their teams?

• What features or filters would help users that we could include in our app?

• What concerns do people have before trying a new team and how can we make our users feel better?

• How comfortable are users with using technologies to find a team for their sport?

Research Insights

“Social media don’t help sometimes and there is no specific platform to find a team or a group”.

“The most frustrating part when looking for a team is the lack of information”.

“I have specific preferences when it comes to the games and it’s hard to find what I wanted”.

User Persona

Journey Map

Considering our finding during research, our team developed a journey map using our user persona. The map is showcasing the problem, steps to solve it, thinking of persona and the mood change. The notes of how our team could improve the steps of the persona are also included.

User Flow

After getting the idea of what out team needs, we planned out the user flow that gets the user from the point of opening the app through the process of getting into a team and closing the app.

Wireframes

After getting all the steps that user needs to take to successfully achieve the end goal of being in a team, we created low fidelity wireframes to have an idea on where each element should be.

User Testing

During user testing we had our user use the TeamApp to find and join a baseball team. The user successfully went through the onboarding and gave us feedback that she appreciated the simple layout and the clear labels for team types and icons. But, unfortunately, user encountered some difficulties with finding the first page after she was connected with a baseball team. She mentioned that it wasn’t immediately clear but she managed to figure it out and still had good experience.

Final Design

Reflection

This project was my first big project where I got to work with a team and complete full research to be able to complete the design. This was a great opportunity for me to understand how it feels to work on a real project with real people in real life and a huge step in my UX/UI designer career and the skills that I gained will be helping me along the way in the future. I have learned a lot about UX research and more user-friendly and responsive designs.

Despite all the good things that had happened while working on the project, we faced some difficulties when it came to finding people for interview to gather the feedback about this problem. But we were able to use another way to still get the needed feedback and continue working as a team.

Next Steps

After finishing the project and talking with our mentor, the next steps that we considered for improvement in the future were working on the contrast of the app and trying new ways to improve the prototype, so it would work even more smooth.

Additionally, we talked about adding an option for people who are not ready to join a team yet but still want to explore the functions of the app.
